Description
An original 1969 Y&B pressing of Pepper on the UK Parlophone label. Matrix 1/1. All copies from 1967 through to early 1969 all held the 'Sold In The UK' statement. Then, in summer 1969, it was discontinued followed by a full label re-design in late autumn. So, these summer 1969 copies are actually comparatively difficult to find - particularly in this sort of condition. The heavy set vinyl comes housed in an original stereo cover with flipbacks printed by Garrod & Lofthouse. Also included are the dark-green cutouts and the original white inner sleeve from the time. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex+) In unbelievable condition and has clearly only seen very light use. Under close inspection there are a couple of very light marks - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an, at least, EXCELLENT+ level of playback. Intros and inbetweens are practically silent and the audio comes across with perfect clarity. Pepper is always a difficult one to find that plays well - partly due to popularity and partly due to the kind of audio contained within it. Only on a truly well preserved copy do you stand a real chance of unleashing the full potential of a 60's original. And boy can you hear it here - this is one of the best renditions of Pepper I've ever heard. Within You...with perfect tonal balance and perfect silence in the back ground...it knocks the spots off later pressings. Interference is thankfully minimal. All we detected was a touch of light static in a couple of isolated moments. Even 'When I'm 64' plays clean.....It's a humdinger that's for sure...
Cover (Ex) Has clearly been very carefully looked after down the years. The original 60's covers with flipbacks seem to have been produced with high quality and detail. Beautiful lush colours and great contrast - all still present here. Front and back are lovely and shiny with only light handling wear. There's a bit of edge wear only really noticeable on the opening edge. The spine is aok - the text is all still readable. The interior is immaculate. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity. a beautiful specimen.
Inner (Ex) Little ageing and slightest split to bottom seam.
Cut-outs (Ex+) Perfect - no faults.
