Description
The Beatles – Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, 1967 stereo LP Parlophone PCS 7027 in stunning condition.
This is a wonderful example of the original stereo first pressing LP Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles. It was released on the Parlophone label in 1967 – PCS 7027. Matrix Numbers / Stampers on side one are YEX 637-1 G OG. Side two – YEX 638-1 G OG. Side one has two small very light scuff-marks on the first couple of tracks. I have just played it through and they do not sound. Side one grades as NEAR MINT. Side two is absolutely perfect and I am happy to grade it as MINT. The labels are perfectly clean. They have the Gramophone Co Ltd / Sold in the UK text. There is no raised tax code on either side.The Garrod & Lofthouse gatefold cover is also in wonderful clean and shiny condition. When I look closely at the front at the very right edge there is a very small slight crease in the laminate, about an inch long and about ¼” in. Other than that it is perfectly flat and in perfect condition. Overall I grade it as Near Mint. There is no crease or rubbing on the spine with all the text being perfect. Best of all, it still makes that wonderful ‘sshhh’ sound at the hinge when you open it, just like a brand new cover, although it is of course 45 years old. The cut-outs insert is also perfect. The only slight (but easily rectifiable) problem is the coloured inner-sleeve. I bought this LP from a chap who had around 100 late 1960s / early 1970s LPs that were nearly all in amazingly good (pretty much either unplayed or played just once or twice) condition. The trouble was that only about six of the LPs were of any interest at all as 95% of them were the usual car boot sale type titles that were just not worth buying, despite their condition. As I was looking at this LP I noticed that the disc was in a plain white inner-sleeve. It looks to be from around the same time but is of course incorrect. After we had searched through the other LPs for a while we came across it. Annoyingly, it was on one of the few LPs that had actually been played quite a lot. Consequently, it is a little creased and also there is a small strip of tape along the bottom edge. BUT – of course the simple thing to do would be to simply swap it with one from another Sgt Pepper. I just do not have one at the moment. Anyway – to sum up – the inner-sleeve aside – this is easily the best condition example of the LP and the Cover that probably I will ever be privileged to own.
It is impossible to be an expert in all realms of collecting, and I am honestly representing this item to the best of my knowledge and ability. If the item has a fault then I have mentioned it. I have described the condition of the item in my text but where applicable I have also ticked the 'used' box as even where an item is 'perfect', it is very old and logic says it must have been handled and probably used at some time over the decades!
