For Beatle fans and collectors..... here is something you don't see everyday....a ONE-PLAY condition copy of 'Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' in Mono (PMC 7027). For many sellers on ebay (including myself) who sell records, the phrase, "looks unplayed", "appears unplayed", "looks almost unplayed", has been used countless times in listings. However, this time I have to emphasize that this record seems truly and REALLY....unplayed.
The man who sold it to me (now in his 80s) was a busy and successful Psychiatrist who's office and home was in London, England. Sometime towards the end of Summer or beginning of Fall 1967 he went into a London record shop and picked up this copy; went home, played it (but not all the way through) then placed it inside his record cabinet among his other (mostly Classical) records...and never touched it again. One look at both sides of this record and you have to believe this story must be true. There isn't one mark....not even the slightest micro scuff or stain...ANYWHERE on the playing surface. There are one or two fingerprints on the matt-black labels....and only a hint of spindle marks around the center holes. I carefully placed the rigid and heavy record on my turntable to check for warps....there were none.
Though the record is the Mono version, it had been placed inside a Stereo sleeve. This is the way he found it in the store, explaining, "these things happened in those days". Bear in mind, in the UK at that time, new albums were rarely available in shops in sealed condition as they were here in North America.
There is some discoloration or "sunning" to the spine of the jacket. But this only bolsters the Doctor's story about placing the album in his cabinet (with spine outwardly facing the window at 90 degrees) and never removing it again. After 55+ plus years, sunning to the spine is to be expected.
Here is a rare opportunity and investment to own one of the most influential albums of all time as a 1st early pressing in pristine one-play condition. All reasonable offers will be considered.
Gatefold Jacket: Excellent(+)....top left corner has a slight bruise and would be graded NM if not for the aforementioned "sunning" to the spine. (See photos)
Original UK printed "Patents Applied For" Inner-Sleeve: Excellent(+) ....some slight age-related discoloration. No splits.
Cut-Out Insert: Near Mint(minus)
Record: Near Mint (verging on Mint!). Let me assure you, this is the closest you will ever get to a Mint condition copy of a vintage UK 1st pressing in Mono. This record is in absolutely astonishing mark-free condition. "K T" tax code on Side 2 label. Record will be placed inside a high quality (audiophile) inner-sleeve.
