Description
The Beatles, Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, PCS 7027.
This is an original UK 5th Pressing of this classic album - the first, so-called, 'two box EMI' edition.
Sgt. Pepper was the Beatles first truly psychedelic album, helping to spawn the hippie movement that culminated in the '67 summer of love.
It features some of their best known work, 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds', "Within Without You' and 'A Day in The Life' to name but a few.
The album looks like it could have been purchased yesterday rather than 50 years ago.
It is in fantastic condition.
There are several features unique to this pressing that are important to note:
- Laminated Garrod & Lofthouse gatefold sleeve;
- The sleeve flipbacks are stuck inside (outside on earlier pressings) the internal pannel;
- Plain white 'patent pending' inner sleeve;
- Additional green 'cut-out' insert;
- Matrix numbers YEX 637-1 & YEX 638-1;
and black labels which features:
- Parlophone logo in silver text placed in a box;
- Two EMI logo's (bottom smaller than top);
- 'The Gramophone Co. ...' perimeter text; and
- Made in Gt. Britain at the bottom.
The condition of the record is as follows:
Sleeve: Excellent
The sleeve on this record is in fantastic condition.
The corners are all sharp, the spine is distinct and the opening is crisp.
The laminate cover has two small ripples on the front cover, otherwise absolutely nothing to note.
As close as you can get to a brand new sleeve.
Disc: Excellent
The disc looks great and plays just as well.
The audio is NM. Really fantastic to listen to. Crisp, clear and vibrant.
The record sounds as good as the day it was bought, with no background crackle audible at all.
Graded excellent as there are 1 or 2 very light paper scuffs on the disc.
The labels are clean with no spindle marks.
Inners: Excellent
The album comes with the original 'patent pending' apple inner sleeve.
It shows no discolouration and only very slight creases around the record.
The disc has been stored within an audiophile quality, anti-static inner sleeve which is also provided.
This is close to a 'final upgrade' record. You will struggle to find a better example.
