Welcome to my auction of a vinyl copy of The Beatles, Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
This is an original 1967 pressing Mono copy complete with the "Sgt Pepper Cut Outs" Insert. - Matrix numbers are 'XEX-637-1' and 'XEX 638-1'. - The label is the standard yellow/black Parlophone label. - The 'All rights of the Manufacturer' message around the edge of the label starts with "The Gramophone Co Ltd..." - The label does have the "Sold in the UK statement .......".
The mono mix is the definitive, original version. Paul McCartney, in a recent interview about Sgt Pepper in Mojo magazine said "The Beatles weren't into stereo.... We thought we'd finished the album. There it is. Sgt.Pepper. Mono". There are actually a number of differences between the 1967 Mono and Stereo mixes and the recent 2017 reissue is really a stereo version of the original Mono mix (if you see what I mean!). So there you have it, if you want an original first pressing copy then the Mono one is the one to have!
I not a record dealer but am a private collector and from time to time sell an album to thin down my collection. I take care of all of my collection as best as I can and have even invested in a Loricraft PRC4 record cleaning machine to keep my collection as clean as possible . I have cleaned this album on my machine using L'Art du Son record cleaning fluid and have included a picture of this actual album being cleaned (for clarity, please note this auction does not include the record cleaning machine!). After cleaning I put the record into a NAGAOKA Anti-static record sleeve but the original white inner is included in this sale as well.
I use the Record Collector's Grading System and would conservatively grade this vinyl record as 'Excellent/VG'. I have play checked this album, after cleaning, on two turntables. Firstly my Pro-ject Debut and then secondly on my Wilson Benesch Full Circle. It plays beautifully with very little background noise and no major deterioration in sound quality There are the odd pops and crackles but the only thing that stops me grading it as 'Excellent' is a short scratch at the end of 'She's Leaving Home' and the beginning of 'Mr Kyte', which does not affect my enjoyment of the record.
The gatefold cover is in excellent condition with only slight wear or creasing. The 'Sgt Pepper cut outs' insert is in as mint a condition that a 50 year old item could be in!
