For auction is a good listeners copy of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band by the “Fab Four”, the Beatles. Their eighth studio album released in May 1967. Upon its release, the album was a huge global success, both commercially and critically. It was a worldwide #1 record, topping the charts in 8 countries including the US where it stayed atop the Billboard 200 for 15 consecutive weeks. Every song is now deemed a classic although none were released as singles. Some highlights are, “With A Little Help From My Friends”, which became a hit for Joe Cocker, “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds”, “Getting Better”, “ When I’m Sixty-Four” and “A Day In The Life”. Critically it was celebrated as a breakthrough in production, composition and cover art and know praised as being one of the most important records in music history. The album won four Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year, the first rock LP to ever receive the honor. It also won, Best Contemporary Album, Best Engineered Recording, Non-Classical and Best Album Cover, Graphic Arts. Sgt. Pepper’s has been recognized as one of the best records ever and has received many accolades and has appeared on many best of lists. It was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1993 and in 2003 it was one of 50 recordings to be chosen by the Library of Congress to be preserved by the National Recording Registry. It was ranked #24 on Rolling Stones list of 500 Greatest Albums of All Time in 2020. It has sold more than 32 million copies worldwide (11 in US) making it one of the best-selling albums of all time. This copy is a 1967 UK mono 1st press. It has black labels with Parlophone in yellow and “Sold In U.K. …” under that.
Vinyl is play graded VG-. Both labels have many spindle marks. There are also many visible surface marks and hairlines but nothing deep that can be felt. One specifically on Side 1 is very noticeable across tracks 2-7. Plays with consistent mild background noise that is never overwhelming. No skips or jumps. Please see pics.
Laminated gatefold cover is in VG condition. Shelf wear on corners and seams. There is a slit through the title (half inch) but it is still legible. No other splits. There are several areas where the lamination is creased or wrinkled on front and back. Mostly along edges and in corners. Some in middle of both sides. On front upper right side there is a name written. Also in same corner the open edge has wear. Light ring wear on both sides. Despite all this it still looks awesome and is very glossy. It is super solid and protects vinyl. Please see pic.
