Description

Being a huge Beatles fan I can’t imagine that I’ve just now heard this cut of the album. One listen and you will absolutely be blown away with the quality of the album and the work MOFI put into this project. I’ve said it before with the other Beatles MFSL albums I’ve listed, it’s like hearing these tracks for the first time; subtle mastering resulting in all the difference that can be perceived. As with any album I purchase in the secondary market I listened to and critically assessed the quality. Vinyl quality is a solid 96 and here is where the loss of 3 points comes from (I say only sealed vinyl can score a 100 so I always start at the score at 99). There are some light surface marks across ‘Fixing a Hole’ leading into ‘She’s Leaving Home.’ I listened to this album on a pair of Grado PS1000e’s, the result of the mark was three ‘pops’ in relatively quick succession between the two songs and that was it. Very relieving since I count ‘Fixing a Hole’ within my top 5 Beatles tracks; that guitar solo was so rich sounding there are no words, really the next level sound. Even with headphones I didn’t feel the experience was lessened by the noises but, being critical in the assessment and in the name of full disclosure I wanted to point this out. Just saying the disc is near mint leaves this open to too much interpretation. This all having been said I could only image a better quality through a sealed copy. I will rate the jacket in top notch condition with a score of 93 which is still well within the near mint category (90-99). As I attempted to capture in the pictures there is some very minor wear within the corners, particularly on the bottom left at the spine as well as a very very small crease within an inch of that corner (it basically blends into the black foreground under the “B” in Beatles. There are a number of very small creases within the gatefold crease, again barely visible but if you really look they are there. Finally, on the back cover within the word ‘Original’ above the letter ‘O’ is a very small mark that is worth mentioning and which I attempted to capture. Again, I think that in order to find a cleaner copy you would need to look to the sealed market. Finally, regarding shipping the album is secured within cardboard inside a Whiplash record mailer to insure a safe trip. If you have a different preference regarding the shipping please let me know and I will make the necessary accommodations. If you have any other questions please let me know and thanks for looking!
