Released in the UK on 4th May 1977 , featured here is an OFFICIAL UK STEREO LP entitled ‘THE BEATLES AT THE HOLLYWOOD BOWL’ This is the **FIRST UK ISSUE**.
From the summer of 1976 E.M.I. embarked on a new series of T.V. advertised albums, the first of these was EMTV 1 - The Beach Boys "20 Golden Greats" which stayed at the top slot for 10 weeks. Glen Campbell was EMTV 2, The Shadows were the third, and The Beatles became the 4th ... hence the unusual catalogue number.
All of the above were heavily (and expensively) promoted on Nationwide T.V. and all had immense chart success, eight of the ten reaching number one. E.M.I. budgeted £200,000 of advertising on the Beatles release and this was one of the eight chart-toppers.
The Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl concerts a year apart were recorded by Capitol records using a three-track recording system. The 1964 concert recording engineer was Hugh Davies, and the 1965 was Pete Abbott which were produced by Voyle Gilmore under the supervision of George Martin. But the results were technically disappointing (not surprising with 17,000 continuously screaming fans) and the idea was shelved for over 10 years.
Finally, the Capitol president Bhaskar Menon discovered the tapes and asked George Martin to give them another listen. George was impressed with the electric atmosphere and the raw energy and set to work in January 1977 enhancing and transferring the performances to modern multi-track tapes. They did no redubbing of voices or instruments.
The album contains 12 powerful tracks performed at the Hollywood Bowl in 1964 and 1965.
The record labels and the vinyl disc are in as new Mint condition, the LP looks to be unplayed.
Side 1 matrix: YEX 969-1 /Side 2 matrix YEX 970-6.
The original thin card Beatles Collection inner sleeve which advertises many other Beatles Albums, is in Near Mint condition, no seam splits, just mild creases
The original gatefold sleeve is also in Near Mint condition, a beautiful undamaged gatefold sleeve.
