PLEASE NOTE - WE HAVE A FORMAT MISMATCH ON THE DISC...1 X STEREO + 1 X MONO.
An original 1st press of WA on UK Apple from 1968. Matrix 1/1/1/1. As mentioned above a switch appears to have occurred at some point in its life. Both LPs are genuine 1968 1st's - But one disc is in stereo and the other in mono. Both discs mention the 'Sold In The UK' statement which is important for confirming a 1st. The Mono disc is the very earliest iteration and omits "EMI". The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original top-loading embossed and numbered cover [No. 0408736 - 7 digits!]. We also have both original black inners, the poster/lyric sheet, and ALL 4 original high quality photos. So, that's pretty much complete - but obviously you do need to consider the format mismatch on the discs. WILL SHIP IN TWO PRISTINE NEW BLACK REPLICA INNERS.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex-) In lovely condition and looking much better than the typical WA that surfaces. The surfaces are in quite decent condition and not littered with marks. There are, however, a coupe of small semi-feelable marks on Side 1 - which do sound momentarily [detail below]. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with a couple of deviations per side. Any WA that can play up around the Excellent level is VERY interesting.. in my humble opinion. Intros and inbetweens are lovely and quiet and the audio comes across with excellent clarity. What is so nice about this copy is that it is pretty clean signalled. I'm not really getting any background - even into those quiet acoustic moments. That's quite unusual on an original 1st White Album. And the audio is extremely impressive - not sure anyone is going to beat a well preserved 1st. You have to weigh up the whole 1 disc being mono and the other stereo. BUT both are 1st's and BOTH play supremely well. The only noticeable deviations were 5-6 ticks in the 1st section of Prudence [caused by one of those marks]. And then 4-5 ticks during Glass Onion - a louder track so not all that noticeable. A couple of ticks in MARTHA and 4-5 ticks in the nonsense/noise track 'No.9'. But providing you can live with these brief slip ups - the rest of the LP is absolute knock out! This example represents four sides of great audio - straight outta 1968.
Cover (Ex) Wow, this cover is truly remarkable. Firstly, it is one of the best preserved true 1st's I've seen. Not perfectly white, but much closer than you typically find. AND it's also made of very very stiff card - much stiffer than I've seen before. So, that front is perfectly flat - AND completely rigid. I had to do a double take to begin with - I don't ever recall seeing/feeling that before. Maybe it was constructed with particularly high-grade card, or perhaps it has just been very lightly used. Either way - the net effect is both impressive and very very unusual. Front and back are close on perfect looking which highly unusual. The interior is superb, but for a couple of tiny sticker removal marks at the top end of each flipback. There's a little bit of edge wear on the top-loading edge - but very little elsewhere. This is one super looking example. The spine is also looking very well preserved - I don't recall another looking quite this solid. The overall presentation, I would argue, is close to unbeatable [which is high praise].
Inners (Vg) Original, but a bit shot. Lots of rips and side splits. Has been repaired to secure.
Photos (Ex) High grade original. I have never seen better original copies.
Photo/Lyric Sheet (Ex) Minimal ageing. No splits. Very nice!
