Description
This is a mono first press of Yellow Submarine that was released on 17 January 1969.
The matrix numbers on this copy are XEX 715-1 and XEX 716-1.
You’ll see on the label above the title that it states “Sold In U.K. subject to resale price conditions, see price lists” – this only appears on first presses.
Also take a look at the rear of the album cover – you may be aware that early presses have the red lines above and below the sleevenotes but you may not know that there was no sleeve manufacturer printed on the lower flap on the initial run, this was corrected later when “Printed and made by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd. Patent No. 943,895? appeared. My copy has the printing on the flap and these sleeves are thought to be rarer in mono as mono was now selling in small quantities with most bought in the initial rush.
The sleeve, with the red lines, is in good to very good condition. It has some laminate creasing and minor ringwear/shelfwear and the rear is a little dirty. There is feathering around the opening and the spine is fully readable.
The record itself is nice and shiny with no noticable spindle wear though there are light marks to be seen on the vinyl. It plays through with no skips or sticks though there’s crackle to be heard, mainly between tracks and quieter moments, and some occasional ticks/pops, mainly on side 2. If you have access to any sort of professional record cleaning kit I'm sure this could be improved no end.
The original black inner is with it and is in great condition, a little ringwear and creasing but no splits or rips
Please look at the pictures closely as they form part of the description
Overall a solid copy of this rare Beatles album on vinyl though if you are planning on playing it regularly a proper clean is recommended.
