Description
For sale we have a first pressing of the 1968 Beatles self titled double album aka 'The White Album'. This is the original 'Apple' pressing with the top opening, wide-spined sleeve. The album also comes with original inner sleeves and inserts. The record is numbered 5422 and is the nicest copy of this album we have seen in a long time.
We have graded each record side on it's own merit rather than the product as a whole, and we are quite strict with our gradings. It is worth noting that this record has been appraised in person by a Beatles collector called Ian Stark, who you may be familiar with.
This record has been play tested using a Linn LP12 reference turntable and it plays fantastically well with no distortion or jumps and the quiet passages have very little background noise or clicks.
Record 1 Side A
Very good condition using the guide you are all familiar with with virtually no spindle wear. It has the matrix code XEX709-1 and stamper code 33T.
Record 1 Side B
Very good condition XEX710-1 and stamper code 2P. This side has very fine hairline marks which do not affect play.
Record 2 Side C
Very good condition XEX711-1 and stamper code GT1. This side has very fine hairline marks which do not affect play. The label on this side of the record has VERY slight wear.
Record 2 Side D
Very good condition XEX712-1 and stamper code 7TM. This side has very fine hairline marks which do not affect play. This is the weakest side of the album condition-wise visually, but plays as previously noted.
The spine is intact and we would describe this as being in very good condition. The laminate along the spine has started to lift but this is very minimal as can be seen in the pictures. The sleeve is in excellent condition with very little deterioration in colour and there are no seam splits or glue fails.
The original black Apple inner sleeves are in very good condition as is the large poster and the four portrait photographs, however the original spacer is missing.
We are an independent record shop based in Stockton on Tees and have over 20 years experience of dealing in rare vinyl. This is the nicest copy we have ever seen (and we have several more in the shop!)
Overall this is a superb example of this highly sought after and collectable record and it would make a fine addition to the discerning record buyer's collection.
