THIS IS THE FAMOUS RARE EAS 50039-40 ISSUE
The lacquer master discs for this EAS 50039-40 "White Album" were cut specially for the 1979 Japan 14 lp box set from a newly supplied master tape sourced from EMI UK, and the covers and labels for each LP were also printed specially for the box set. Because the lacquers for most of the LPs were cut specially for this box, the White Album EAS 50039-40, is really very good sounding.. better than a standard Japanese Beatles LP from the "regular" master tapes that had been used in Japan for years. 

The EAS 50039-40 White Album from the 1979 Japan Blue Box set in particular is much less "bright" than previous Japanese White Albums; that is, there is much less treble boost on this 1979 "blue box" White Album than previous pressings.  THIS IS A SUPERB PRESSING!!

They pressed only 12,500 of the 1979 Apple label Japan "blue box" sets, with 7500 of them being made for export to the USA. There was no way to purchase a Japanese Beatles record with the catalog numbers ranging from EAS 50031 (Please Please Me) to EAS 50043 (Let It Be) except to buy the box set. Note: "normal" single LP series of Beatles LPs in Japan was numbered with an EAS 80000 prefix (or EAS 77001-2 for the 1976-1983 White Album in Japan) and are much more common.  THIS IS A RARE HARD TO FIND COPY IN STUNNING CONDITION!

AS THIS RECORD SET WAS NOT PURCHASED FROM NEW, I CAN ONLY RATE IT AS NEAR MINT, HOWEVER, THE VINYL IS VERY SHINY, SUPERB SHEEN, LOOKS LIKE IT JUST LEFT THE FACTORY AND UNDER BRIGHT LIGHTS THERE ARE SEEN NO HAIRLINES  NO SCRATCHES AND NO REAL EVIDENCE OF PLAY!

Some incredible songs on this 1967 album from composer Reid King who married the Brazilian sound with
popular music of that era to produce an album that should have really taken off then, but due to the strange
setup of Canterbury Records who were in business to lose money for a Mattel tax shelter, the album was allowed
to die on the vine by Canterbury when it started to take off with airplay and sales.  Reid King went on to become
one of the foremost composers of contemporary music for the gut-string guitar.

FINALLY ONE LAST WORD RE HAIRLINES, IT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND ANY NON SEALED RECORD WITHOUT THEM, MANY HAD THEM FROM NEW. MOSTLY THEY ARE A RESULT OF STORAGE AND USE AND USUALLY HAVE LITTLE IMPACT ON THE SOUND QUALITY. THE SAME GOES FOR BACKGROUND NOISE, UNFORTUNATELY ALL RECORDS WILL HAVE SOME AND THIS VARIES AND REFLECTS THE PRESSING QUALITY. 

Most records have production marks where someone touched or moved the vinyl while it was still semi-soft.  These marks look like smudges, but are not scratches or "paper scuffs" and do not usually sound.  Untouched vinyl from newly-opened records have these marks.

How I Grade Condition Of Discs

Mint

This means I have owned it from new or purchased from a distributors warehouse, basically it means absolutely new shape, never been played or out of its dust cover. In the case of LP's, a North American album will have to be factory sealed (anyone can reseal an album!) Take Note: European and Japaneses albums were never shrink wrapped!

Note: Being mint does not guarantee it's free of pops and clicks, many pressings especially from the US were made with very poor vinyl and in a hurry which means often there are imperfections in the pressing. As a former importer, we were often given back brand new albums due to clicks heard in the playback.

Mint Minus - No such thing, it's either mint or not.

Excellent - A disc is super clean, with no visible marks

 Excellent Plus, means it's probably mint but can't be proven by me.

Excellent minus, is a disc that is excellent except it may have some markings that do not show up in the playing

VG - A disc that is STILL in good shape, WILL have some scuffs or scratches, not in excellent shape but well worth owning. VG + and ++,a disc that is that much better than VG.
