Description
An original 1st mono press on the UK Apple label. Matrix 1/1/1/1. Please note you can find really early copies without 'EMI' exhibiting - but the copy here does exhibit the EMI text and would have been available for purchase at 1st issue. The real clincher for a genuine 1st issue is that statement you can see across the top of each label ' Sold In The UK subject to...'. Worth insisting on the 1st issues as apart from being genuine 1st release copies they were pressed very solid. The vinyl comes housed in an original top-loading cover [1st issue]. Note the cover is numbered "0135996" - that's seven digits. If your copy doesn't have the seven digits I'm afraid it isn't 1st issue. Ok, so we have none of the other components of a white album... there's no original black inners, photos, or lyric sheet [None]. So, this copy would be of significant interest to an upgrader - or perhaps someone looking to build the complete white album. But do start with a great condition record - like the one we have here. We're housing the vinyl in original Decca mid-sixties poly-lined inners. They look cool - but are obviously NOT original to this release.
Vinyl (Ex/Vg+) In lovely condition and have only seen relatively light use. Under close inspection expect a few light marks per side - nothing heavy or sinister looking. Overall these badboys have been well cared for! A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with only marginal deviation in the occasional moment. Given these are true mono 1st issues I've gotta say they are well preserved - and it shows in the audio. I'm lovin' it! A lovely bold and clean rendition - partly due to the mono heavy pressing and in part thanks to the high level preservation. They don't all sound this good. You might detect a few crackles in the odd spot.... lets say ...once or twice per side [e.g. Blackbird/Honey Pie/No.9]. Certainly nothing remotely upfront or intrusive. There were a few ticks observable in the early moments of 'Mother Natures Son'. This is a very decent level of playback across four sides - and should more than satisfy most folks. And it's a relatively clean player even into all those low-key acoustic numbers. Perhaps you want it to replace your tired original copy...?..or perhaps you want to use it as a basis to build a top level complete copy. Either way - you're onto a winner!
Cover (Vg+) In very nice condition and faring better than many original copies will have done. Firstly, it hasn't aged as bad as many copies out there. I wouldn't describe it as 'white' anymore - more like 'off-white'. But this is still better looking than many examples. The only thing I can pick out that is detrimental is that bit of wear/minor tear at the top middle on the front. Other than that everything else will drop into the category of "minor and not that noticeable". The spine exhibits a bit of wear at either end, but all text still seems to pretty much all still legible. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
Inners (Ex-) These are the Decca inners from midsixties. Very nice. lightest ageing. No splits.
