The BEATLES WHITE ALBUM MONO PMC 7067/8 No. 0623709
A very high number for a UK first pressing! 0623709.
The story goes that EMI initially pressed 1 to 300,000 in mono and 300,000 to 600,000 in stereo. Then pressed a further 30,000 in mono to complete the first gatefold cover (top loading) covers, so this is at the very top end of UK first pressings and it’s a MONO copy! This is a very nice example from late 1968/early 1969 with all components including spacer, and KT tax code embossed on sides 1 and 4!
Sides 1 & 2: PMC 7067
LABELS Minor spindle markings. KT embossed on side 1. Both labels are very clean with no writing or stickers.
VINYL: XEX 709-1 ( 3 MD) XEX 710-1 ( 7 AM)
Both sides have minor surface scuffs and scratches but nothing that looks serious. On playback the audio is bright and clean with occasional clicks and ticks. Nothing to distract the listener. There are no loud pops, and no stylus sticks or jumps.
Sides 3 & 4 PMC 7068
LABELS: Some, but not excessive spindle markings. KT embossed on side 4. Very clean with no writing or stickers. Side 4 has a slight blemish (discolouration) on the white part of the label.
VINYL: XEX 711-1 (2 GM) XEX 712-2 (3 GMA)
As sides 1 and 2. Both sides have minor surface scuffs and scratches but nothing that looks serious. On playback the audio is bright and clean with occasional clicks and ticks. Nothing to distract the listener There are no loud pops, and no stylus sticks or jumps.
First pressing, top opening gatefold cover with No. 0623709 on the front. Complete with black die cut inners, photos and poster and ultra rare SPACER!
The gatefold cover has some visible ringwear (minor) and a few minor creases on the laminate. The spine has lost some of the laminate but despite these blemishes is still an excellent example from 1968. No writing, stains or other ugly marks. The Beatles embossing and the front number still very clear on the front.
Black Inners: Excellent, one has no rips or tears, one has two slight tears at the die cut centre.
Poster/ Lyric Sheet: Original copy, no splits, tears or writing. Excellent condition
Portrait photos: Very minor wear on the corners. Excellent.
White Spacer: Just a few minor creases, excellent as well.
Overall, this copy has been well-kept and looked after for 45 years. A very collectible addition to anybody’s Beatles record collection and it is unlikely that you will come across a HIGHER mono example from 1968!
