For auction is a good listeners copy of The Beatles (“The White Album”) by the legendary British rock band. Their ninth studio album and only double-LP released in November 1968. It was also the bands first on their newly formed label, Apple Records. It features 30 songs all with various styles across different genres including rock, country rock, folk, ska, hard rock, British blues, psychedelia and avant-garde. A huge commercial success, the White Album topped the charts internationally in 10 countries including in the UK and the US on the Billboard 200. No singles were released but many of the tracks have been deemed classics. This includes, “Back in the U.S.S.R.”, “Dear Prudence”, “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da”, “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”, “Blackbird”, “Rocky Racoon”, “Birthday”, “Helter Skelter” and “Revolution 1”. Considered one of the best albums ever recorded, the White Album has been cited on many lists. In 2000, the album was voted #5 in the third edition of Colin Larkin’s, All Time Top 1000 Albums. In 2020, Rolling Stone ranked it #29 on their list of 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. It has also been included in the book, 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. The White Album has sold close to 14 million copies worldwide, 12 million alone in the US, being certified 24x platinum. This copy is a rare 1968 1st Italian press numbered (No. 0318145). It includes a big fold out poster and four photos of each band member.
Vinyl is play graded VG-. Both records have many light visible surface marks and hairlines but nothing deep that can be felt. They both play with consistent mild background noise of various degrees but never overwhelming. Nether disc has any skips or jumps. Please see pics.
Top loading gatefold cover is in VG- condition. Has glossy finish. The binding has tape over a split. Binding has also come unglued inside so the two pockets are now one big one. Still protects vinyl and inserts very well. No other splits but wear on seams. Corners have dents and/or creases. Obvious ring wear and stains on front and back. Name written in pen on back. Number is imprinted on front lower right and The Beatles is embossed. Please see pics.
