Description

This is a very first press mono copy of the White Album released on 22 November 1968.

The sleeve is numbered 0087156 and the matrix numbers are XEX 709-1, XEX 710-1, XEX 711-1 and XEX 712-1.

There is no “An EMI Recording” at 9 o’clock on the labels which was added pretty quickly after release.

The top opening numbered sleeve is in very good to excellent condition. It suffers from yellowing, so common with original white albums, and a tiny amount of creasing. The top openings are very strong with none of the feathering you usually find. There is some laminate lift on the spine, making it hard to read, and the number on the front is faded. Certainly one of the better sleeves I’ve seen.

Please note - the pictures above don't really show the yellowing, they make it look whiter than it is (it's not too bad - I just want to make it clear that it's not as white as it appears)

The 4 photos and the poster are all in very good to excellent condition, just some minor foxing/staining. Obviously the poster has creases where it has been folded which in a couple of places has caused the tiniest of holes - hardly noticable. There is some minor creasing on each photo but neither the poster or the photos have any pen marks, pin holes or sellotape marks.

The original black inners are showing their age with some tears around the die cut and openings. One of them has a tear on the side. I don't have the records housed in these - they are in replacement inners.

The records themselves still have a great shine and play beautifully all the way through - some hardly noticable feint crackle here and there but no sticks, skips or jumps. As you'll see in the pictures there are hardly any spindle marks and the labels have no writing on them.

If you're looking for a museum quality final upgrade this is not it but it is a great example of a very first press and still one of the best copies I have personally seen and heard.
