The Beatles, also referred to colloquially as "the White Album",  is the only double album of original Beatle compositions released by the band in their original album catalogue.
Released November 22nd, 1968 and originally featuring a plain white sleeve, the cover contained no graphics or text other than the band's name embossed.
This was intended as a direct contrast to the vivid cover artwork of the band's previous LP, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967).
It has been viewed by some critics as a postmodern work, as well as one of the greatest albums of all time. The album was the band's first LP release on their then-recently founded Apple Records after previous albums were released on Capitol Records in the United States.
The original album release topped the US Billboard Hot 200 Album Charts,  hitting #1 on December 28th, 1968, and remaining there for 9 weeks.
No singles were originally issued from the 1968 release but with this re-issue in 1976, a supporting Single was released featuring: Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da b/w Julia which peeked on Billboard's Hot 100 Singles Chart at #49
