Description
Released towards the end of 1963, 'With The Beatles' ended up displacing 'Please Please Me' at the top of the UK chart, where it remained for 21 weeks. It was obvious from the song selection that The Beatles loved Motown music....'Money', 'Please Mr. Postman', 'You Really Got A Hold On Me', are all given The Beatles/George Martin treatment with great results.
On offer is a rare and early UK Mono edition of this title. Both cover and record have the incorrect spelling for the song, 'You Really Got A Hold Me'... spelling it instead as, 'You Really Gotta Hold On Me'. In addition, there is a miscredit for the song, 'Money'. Instead of Dominion. Belinda (Ldn.) it has, Jobete Mus. NCB. Both these errors were corrected on later pressings.
Cover: VG(+).....the lamination to the front cover still holds up quite well. There are a few inoffensive creases that are mostly along the right side. The spine is solid and all the print fully legible. The back cover shows some age discoloration but is usually found far worse. A very presentable early printed edition.
Original Inner-Sleeve: Excellent-....the rice-paper lined inner is very well preserved and amazingly without seam splits. Some yellowing and aging but this is normal after 63 years.
Record: VG- to VG+....the heavy vinyl still has a nice shine and under bright lights one can see several hairlines and marks but very few of them can be felt under fingertips. A touch of surface noise is heard on some songs but not the unbearable and bothersome type. Despite the grade the audio still impresses with very bold, balanced, and detailed sound that you would expect from an early UK pressing. Both labels are fairly clean and the Side 2 label has a "Factory Sample/Not For Sale" sticker which means it was probably intended for a special client or inside use. Please bear in mind that Near Mint copies of this pressing can sell for eight to ten times my asking price.
