For auction is a very rare and excellent condition First U.K. Stereo issue of The Beatles second album ‘With the Beatles’ from 1963
Very few stereo copies were issued, as at this time mono outsold stereo by about 10 to 1.
This is the first press and complete with all the rare early label and sleeve errors, which were soon corrected by Parlophone.
What makes this copy even more desirable for serious collectors is that both sides are pressed with the very first 1G stampers.
Original Parlophone sleeve, with large stereo on front and the ‘Gotta’ misprint on the rear for side 2 track 3, is in VG+ to excellent condition, with only very minor edge wear, and slight discolouration to the rear. No writing or tears.
Original Use Emitex inner sleeve in excellent condition.
YEX 110-2 and 111-2 matrices.
The record labels are clean with minimal spindle wear. There are three distinct early misprints on the labels, which would be corrected very quickly by Parlophone. The first misprint is the repetition of the ‘Gotta’ sleeve error instead of ‘Got a’ on side 2 track 3. The second error - which also shows this is very first press is the ‘Jobete’ credit for the final track. Rarest of all is the ‘Domion’ miscredit for Side 2 track 3 which was soon corrected by Parlophone to the correct ‘Dominion’.
What makes this copy super desirable are that both sides of the record have the earliest 1G stampers. This was one of the first 300- 500 copies made.
Visually both sides are excellent, with only a few very light scuffs and hairlines.
Sonically is also excellent with only occasional light crackles between tracks noticeable.
Even without the misprints this would be a rare first press stereo copy. Considering the misprints and the stamper numbers this has to be a most desirable addition to any collection.
