Description
You are bidding on a rare record by The Beatles, "Yesterday And Today", Mono, Capitol T-2553. This is a "butcher cover". I've been looking for one of these all my life and for some strange reason, this is the second one I've found this year! Using the Goldmine Grading Scale, this record is rated as follows: Cover: VG (see description), Vinyl: VG (beautiful gloss, plays wonderfully), Original Inner Sleeve: EX, Labels: MINT. This auction also includes a copy of the original Capitol Records withdrawal letter for this release. After careful deliberation, I am rating this cover as VG, though I was almost tempted to rate it G because of the damage which I will now describe: The top edge has a frayed area about four inches across and the seam is starting to split, though it is not split yet. The bottom, left corner has a very small area where the paper is flaked away. Visually, I recognize this as typical silverfish damage. Silverfish are a tiny insect that flourish in storage areas where paper is present, feeding off of old books, record covers, magazines, etc. They have simply helped themselves to a minute portion of this rare jacket. It is obvious and is guaranteed that nobody has made a single attempt to peel away this paste-over cover. On both the front and back of the jacket are various light discolorations. The rear of the cover has an address partially stamped on it. There is light ringwear and staining. The bottom, right corner has more silverfish damage where the paper has been eaten away revealing the cardboard underneath. Thus said, this piece is by no means a lost cause. I consider it to be a decent example. Please look carefully at the photos as they tell the story.
Please rest assured that I know and understand the proper way to ship a rare lp. The vinyl will be removed from the original inner sleeve, placed in an alternate sleeve, and enclosed in a plastic, protective sleeve behind the cover to avoid seam splitting/damage.
