If you’ve been longing for a Butcher Cover, or there’s someone very special on your Christmas list who does, why not go for it now?

The Beatles Yeterday and Today
Capitol T 2553 (1966 mono)
Second State Butcher Cover (paste over)

This is an easy to spot Butcher Cover, because the top slick was pasted on with just a smidgen of the original artwork showing at the left margin. (See the scan of a closeup of that area.) The V-shaped outline of the cut of Ringo’s sweater can be seen distinctly (but not in a scan). There’s a number "6" on the back cover to the left of the RIAA logo.

Although it’s clear to me that no one has attempted to do a peel, there are a couple of rubbed areas: a small one (about ½") near the upper left corner, perhaps where a sticker was removed, and one at the lower right corner about 2" h x 1" w. I can’t tell what caused this, although it might have gotten wet.

The reason I’m sure nobody tried a peeling is that I bought this album years ago from the original owner for 50¢, before he or I were aware of Butcher Covers. If the light in his apartment wasn’t so dim, I surely wouldn’t have bought it, because in good light the disc looks like a G grade. (So I never played it.) Why didn’t I throw it away? Just lucky, I guess.

Fortunately, the cover is in much better shape.

All seams are intact, and there are no serious defects.

There are these relatively minor ones: The paper on the spine is split at the bottom for about 3". (It looks like the spine is split, but when you look through the open end you can see that it’s intact.) The same is true for about the first inch of the seam at the top. The spine’s "Yesterday" is only partially readable. There is light ring wear, mainly at the top of George’s head, and at the bottom of the suitcase. Finally, the previous owner’s name (four letters) is written in ink to the right of George’s head, and his full name is on the back cover near the top.

(The original inner sleeve is in excellent shape, with just a 2" split on the bottom.)

Cover grade: VG
