I have a copy of:

Matrix side2:XEX 606-2 Mother:5  Stamper:RT (29)

so what does this information tell us about this copy of revolver well its not the illusive first pressing which was deleted within a matter of weeks or the record launch so this is an early second press we know this because of the matrix and because of the Mother numbers being in single figures as you will know Beatles albums would be made in the millions so mother's will only produce so many stampers (which create the record that we listen to) before becoming worn out and so new mother's are created, with beatles albums the mother's can get into high double figures, also the stampers can get and do on most Beatles records get into triple letters because of the quantities produces.

 the numbers I have put in brackets next to the Stamper letters tell us the pressing number which I have deduced by a formula by the stamper letters

so we can say that side one was created by the 72stamper which was created by the 4th side one Mother

 side 2 was created by the 29th stamper which in turn was created by the 5th side two Mother

the first side two Mother and all the stampers that were created from it would of been destroyed because the records created by those stampers had the wrong version of "Tommorow never Knows"on

so for the second issue a new side two Mother needed to be created which was called the number two mother (not number one) so in theory the side two on this record was actually  made by a stamper created by the fourth Mother it was called the firfth Mother because the first Mother had been destroyed

so basically this record has very good pedigree as it is a very early second press so was probably made only a couple of weeks after the first press and would have been in the intial sales batch for this record and may have even been bought very shortly after the initial day of release.

early copies are highly prized for their high sound quality and this copy is no exception

it is also the copy with "DR Robert" on the sleeve and label rather than "Doctor Robert"

I play test every record on a Linn record Deck fitted with an ortofon 520mk2 though a pair of Rogers LS7's a very sensative setup designed to bring the best and worse out of any record

Condition of how the Record Looks: VG++ 

when viewed under a very bright light both sides of the record show the expected very fine hairlines and marks all over.

when viewed under normal conditions, light suface marks can still be viewed on both sides especially on side one, there is a long very light mark which runs accross the vinyl and a few other light surface marks here and there...but overall the vinyl shows very little play wear at all, the vinyl is bright and shiny and is really in lovely condition, I would not hesitate to mark up to EX all over were it not for a few of the more noticable marks..though none of them in any way effect play apart from two very small marks on side 1 which i will discuss in the next section.

the record though really looks great shiny and clean..one of the best iv seen ..most copies of Revolver are very well played and show their age...this copy has been very well loked after and not player that many times

and all off the marks bar two are all very light surface marks which do not effect play

The Labels are spotless and clean showing just a spot of spindle wear

Condition of how the record plays:EX to EX+ 

this copy plays through beautifully... barely a hair out of place it really sound Excellent for over 95% of the record it plays superbly clean and crackle free

however there are two problem areas which are tiny and I have included them both in the soundfile

 there is an extremely small mark at the beggining of "Love you to" which causes a slight and light tick for I think 3 or 4 revolutions and also at the beggining of "here there and everywhere "there is a tiny feelable sctratch which causes a very light tick for about 7 revolutuions...on a record with background noise you may not even here the ticks as they are very light, but because this record plays so cleanly..they are noticable..saying that... they are over and done with very quickly.... the first one is finished as quickly as you could think"was that a tick i just heard" and its gone, the second one takes a little longer but it is still over with pretty quickly...you can listen to them on the audio clip and decide for yourself wether they would be problematic to you or not.

A really very clean excellent copy of Revolver

Condition of the Cover:VG+

please see the photos below for a good view of the overall condition of the record

the cover is fully intact, the spine is strong and readable..there is no sticker/sellotape damage or any writing on the cover

the images are all clean and bright and the edges are damage free, the leading edges are strong

the back cover shows only slight wear...were it not for some browning and laquer cracking along the spine which has caused a couple of the letters to dissapear (see photo) I would not hesitate to rate as EX

there is also at the top a tiny 2mm indentation in to the top edge were the record has been moved in and out of the cover and caught on the top gradually causing a small wear spot..very small

The record comes complete with a heavy Emitex polythene lined inner sleeve on which all the seams are intact the only damage is a couple of small lines of black paint down one side or it might be ink from a fountain pen other wise perfect

"MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.

VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.
