Description
Rubber Soul is the sixth studio album by the British rock band It was released in the U.S. on the Capitol Records label in December 1965. Rubber Soul was described as an important artistic achievement by the band and received a highly favorable critical response. The album went to #1 on sales charts in the UK and U.S. for several weeks. Rubber Soul incorporates a mix of pop, soul and folk musical styles. After A Hard Day’s Night it was the second Beatles LP to contain only original material. It showcased their lyrical maturity and the implementation of brighter guitar tones and use of sitar, harmonium and fuzz bass. The album marked a progression of the band’s treatment of the album as an artistic platform, an approach they furthered on Revolver (1966) and Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967). It was hugely influential to say the least and cited by many artists who began to focus away from recording singles to creating album length, coherent statements. The album is currently ranked #5 on Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums All-Time list. The album is certified 6X Platinum by the RIAA.
