The Best of Otis Redding
This was another anthology that was definitive for many years, but lost a lot of value once Rhino began with its CD reissues. Atlantic hasn't bothered to reissue it as a CD, so it's only available on cassette. The original sound was decent and the range of selections good, and it still can be a nice introduction to Redding's greatness. There wasn't much information available beyond the minimum details. "Just One More Day" was recorded live At The Whisky A Go Go under the supervision of Nesuhi Ertegun. All selections in this album were originally recorded in stereo with the exception of "These Arms Of Mine", "That's How Strong My Love Is" and "Pain In My Heart". On these three tracks Al Jackson Jr., Donald "Duck" Dunn and the Memphis Horns duplicated the original parts in stereo so that the sides could be re-mixed in true stereo.
