Die legendäre Band aus Wales nannte sich ursprünglich Eyes Of Blue und hat 2 Alben und diverse Singles veröffentlicht. Außerdem spielten sie als Backing Band für BUZZY LINHARD auf dessen erstem Album “Buzzy”(1968).

Danach erschien unter den Bandnamen ANCIENT GREASE (1970) eine weitere LP. So wie sich die Bandnamen änderten, veränderte sich auch ihr Sound. Am Anfang war Rhythm & Blues der maßgebende Einfluss. Später kamen aber immer mehr psychedelische und progressive Elemente hinzu. Auf diesem Album  BIG SLEEP “Bluebell Wood“ (1971) kommt die Vielfalt dieser musikalischen Entwicklung sehr gut zum Ausdruck.

Leider begann sich die Band zum Zeitpunkt der Veröffentlichung von „Bluebell Wood“ langsam zu aufzulösen.

Nach einigen Auszeiten und dem entgültigen Bruch spielten:

Phil Ryan bei PETE BROWN & PIBLOKTO und danach bei MAN

Ray Williams bei MAN

Gary Pickford Hopkins bei WILD TURKEY und RICK WAKEMAN

Ritchie Francis veröffentlichte sein Soloalbum “Songbird”

John Weathers ging zu GENTLE GIANT

The legendary band from Wales called originally Eyes Of Blue and has released 2 albums and various singles. They also played as the backing band for Buzzy Linhard’s first album "Buzzy" (1968). Then under the band name ANCIENT GREASE (1970) published another LP. Just as the band names canged, also changed their sound. At the beginning Rhythm & Blues was the decisive influence. But were later added more and more with psychedelic and progressive elements. On this album BIG SLEEP "Bluebell Wood" (1971), the diversity of musical development is very well expressed.
Unfortunately at the time of the release of the Album “Bluebell Wood” , the band of began to split slowly. After some time out and the final brake up, the former bandmembers played:
Phil Ryan with PETE BROWN & piblokto and then with MAN
Ray Williams with MAN
Gary Pickford Hopkins with WILD TURKEY and with RICK WAKEMAN
Ritchie Francis released his solo album "Songbird"
John Weathers went to GENTLE GIANT

Condition: “Very Good Plus “. Die LP ist noch in recht gutem Zustand. Es befinden sich einige  Oberflächenkratzer/ und feine Wischer auf der Platte, die sich aber nicht sonderlich negativ auf die Klangqualität auswirken. Wahrscheinlich sind die Meisten durch das Herausziehen und Reinschieben ins Inner Sleeve entstanden. Leise Grundgeräusche in der Einlaufrille und an manchen ruhigen Stellen sich sind vermutlich eher auf die Pressung zurückzuführen. Die LP wurde mit Kopfhören geprüft, über Lautsprecher sind die leisen Grundgeräusche kaum noch wahrnehmbar.  Das laminierte Cover ist noch sehr gut erhalten und hat zeigt nur an den Rändern vereinzelt Veränderungen. Die matte Innenseite des Klappcovers ist sehr gut erhalten. Der Coverrücken ist noch sehr gut leserlich. Es sind auch keine Risse oder sonstige gröbere Schäden am Cover vorhanden (Siehe Fotos)

Condition: "Very Good Plus". The LP is still in pretty good condition. There are some  surface scratches / “hairlines” on the record, probably the most by the in and out sliding from the Inner sleeve, but they don’t have no particularly negative impact on the sound quality. Quiet noise in the lead-in groove and on some quiet parts are are probably due more to the pressing.The LP was tested with headphones, through loudspeakers the faint noise is barely perceptible. The laminated cover is very well preserved and has only at the edges, some wear. The mat inside of the gatefold cover is very well preserved. The spine is still very legible. There are no cracks or other coarser damage on the cover.  (See Photos)
