Description
Up for auction, the UK pressing of a 7" vinyl 45rpm single from Aussie post-punk band, The Birthday Party , sporting the original line-up, and released in October 1980, seven months after they moved from Melbourne to London. The A-Side is "Friend Catcher" , written by Nick Cave, and the B-Side contains two tracks, the first of which is "Waving My Arms" written by Rowland Howard, and the other a frenetic cover of the old Gene Vincent and Bill "Tex" Davis tune, "Catman", from 1957.
The second Birthday Party single, this was originally recorded at Richmond Recorders, Melbourne, engineered by Tony Cohen, and produced by The Birthday Party, capturing all the chaotic energy they were renowned for. This was pressed at the WEA Record Pressing Plant, West Drayton, London, and released on the 4AD label. The Birthday Party songs are published by Beggars Banquet, and the Gene Vincent cover by Campbell, Connelly and Co.
Etched into the deadwax on the A-Side is "WEATP TOWNHOUSE AD 12 A1", and on the label "AD 12 A", and, on the B-Side, "AD 12 B-2 TA1PE MBAD 12 A" graces said deadwax, with "AD 12 B" on the label.
The cover is worn, and in condition shown.
The vinyl has superficial marks and scratches, which don't affect play, and there are no skips or jumps to either side. There's a little hiss and crackle at the start of songs, which largely wears off as the tunes progress.
