The Blues From St. Louis (1929-1935): Blind Teddy Darby, James "Stump" Johnson, Leroy Henderson, Clifford Gibson, Dorothy Baker, Pretty Boy Walker, released by RST Records Blues Documents (BD-2017) in 1988 in Mono.  Made in Austria.

*This phenomenal collection of obscure St. Louis pre-war blues has a decisive "underworld" feel to it, if you know what I'm saying.  The 3 sides by Blind Teddy Darby featured here display the hip, dirty & violent type of blues one expects to hear in the brothel "waiting room" of old.  Darby's voice is just glorious & incredible on these rare examples of him being accompanied by piano (played by Roosevelt Sykes & Peetie Wheatstraw).  James "Stump" Johnson takes a comical stance on this hip, seedy blues.  His "Steady Grindin'", a parody of "Keep-a-Knockin'", takes the cake.  There ain't no innuendo here, this is just straight-up sexual, more appropriate for the post-waiting room brothel blues.  The excellent "Good Grinder Blues" by Leroy Henderson features an all-star lineup of Peetie Wheatstraw, Casey Bill Weldon, and quite possibly Charley Jordan on the 2nd guitar.  Clifford Gibson, with six sides featured here, is one of the absolute greats of the genre, 'nough said.  Pretty Boy Walker might be the most "baddass" of them all, playing the hippest & roughest of the aforementioned brothel blues.*

The Vinyl is visually graded in VG+ condition.  When looked at under a very bright light, the record shows a very rich luster and a few, incredibly light surface marks.

The Cover is graded in VG+ condition, just showing a very minor tear from an old price-tag on the back.

Shipping is calculated by ebay at the actual cost for you, the consumer. I don't charge any extra fees for material or handling.

If you buy many records from me, I can ship them all together in one box, and charge you the actual cost I pay at the post office. International customers, please keep in mind that once you reach 4 pounds (roughly 4 LPs+), 1st Class International is no longer a shipping option, and you must ship Priority or Express.
