On their lone studio album, 1998's BROKEN STAR, Chicago-based the Broadways sound for all the world like the heart-on-the-sleeve--though, significantly, not emo--socio-political punk rock group they were. Though the Broadways' music lacks the immediacy and hooks of the best punk rock, the group's thoughtful lyrics and droll humor--on full display in songs such as "I Hear Things Are Just as Bad Down in Lake Erie"--make for a rewarding listen for fans of the genre.
