AFTER A BREAK OF SEVERAL MONTHS FOR HEALTH-RELATED REASONS, I’M BACK TO CONTINUE TO BRING YOU MORE BEATLES AND ROCK & ROLL VINYL AND MEMORABILIA!

Here is a NOTABLE PROMOTIONAL LP for vinyl collectors and especially for collectors of Classic Rock & Roll!

As you probably know, PROMOTIONAL RECORDS were ONLY released by record companies to the radio stations and DJs for on-air play or to VIPs in the music industry. They were produced in very small/limited quantities, and they were NOT available for sale to the general public; therefore, they are valued more by vinyl collectors. Often, certain promotional records are particularly hard-to-find and have become highly sought after by collectors and especially by the fans of certain recording artists and/or bands.

In this auction:

• “MR. TAMBOURINE MAN” LP by The Byrds

• This LP is Columbia Records CL 2372.

• This is a WHITE LABEL PROMOTIONAL PRESSING of THE BYRDS DEBUT LP!

• It is a MONO (Monaural) Pressing

• This LP was released commercially on June 21, 1965.

• The original five-member lineup of The Byrds consisted of Jim (aka Roger) McGuinn (lead guitar, vocals), Gene Clark (tambourine, vocals), David Crosby (rhythm guitar, vocals), Chris Hillman (bass guitar, vocals), and Michael Clarke (drums). Many of the band members, particularly David Crosby, went on to become members of other notable bands of the 1960s.

• It has GREAT TUNES from The Byrds including “Mr. Tambourine Man”, “I’ll Feel A Whole Lot Better” and “All I Really Want To Do” and others.

• “Mr. Tambourine Man”, a big hit for The Byrds, is a Bob Dylan composition that was released on his “Bringing It All Back Home” LP March 22, 1965.

• Though “Mr. Tambourine Man” was a bigger hit for The Byrds than Dylan’s own version, Dylan was reportedly absolutely thrilled and pleased with The Byrds' version of the song and even performed it with them several times. In fact, the rear cover of this LP has a photo of Bob Dylan with The Byrds in an onstage performance.

• Additional Bob Dylan compositions on this 1st LP by The Byrds are “All I Really Want To Do”, “Chimes Of Freedom” and “Spanish Harlem Incident”. According to online sources, “the relationship between The Byrds and Bob Dylan was among the most synergistic relationships in all of rock history. The Byrds were the supreme interpreters of Dylan's songs, other than Dylan himself.”

• The FRONT COVER of this LP has the “COLUMBIA RECORDS RADIO STATION SERVICE” Timing Strip. Printed on the Timing Strip is “NOT FOR RESALE”. (There is a small red check-mark in red ink beside the second track on Side 1, some light age-spotting and a couple of “flea bites” on the bottom edge.)

• The COVER is in NICE VG CONDITION. There is moderate overall wear. This includes: circular wear (not ring wear yet) on the black areas of the front cover; a thin light 4-inch horizontal line impression on the front cover (probably made by a fingernail or ballpoint pen); 2 names written in blue ink at the top left corner of the rear cover; a couple of small corner “pushes”; some light age-spots on the white rear cover; light to moderate wear on the corners with slight rounding on 3 of the 4 corners. There are NO seam splits (the seams and the spine are strong); NO tears and NO flaking. The glossy white rear cover slick is still quite nice and clean.

• The WHITE PROMOTIONAL LABELS have “RADIO STATION COPY – NOT FOR RESALE” printed on them.

• The WHITE PROMOTIONAL LABELS also have the Columbia Records “2-Eye” label design.

• The VINYL is on the WEAK SIDE of VERY GOOD (VG) CONDITION. There are numerous light surface hairlines/scuffs (most are NOT “feel-able”); however, there are three very small slightly “feel-able” scuffs on Side 1 and a 1 ½ -inch “feel-able” hairline scratch on Side 2 that result in additional surface noise (pops). (I checked these by tracking/playing those areas on my Technics turntable tracking at ½ gram.) But the VINYL still has LOTS OF GLOSS.

• The PROMO LABELS are CLEAN and WHITE with NO tape, NO tears, NO writing, NO stickers and NO sticker stains;

It’s a VERY UNCOMMON WHITE LABEL PROMOTIONAL MONO PRESSING OF THE BYRDS FIRST LP for someone’s vinyl collection. In fact, it’s been “many, many moons” since I’ve seen a Byrds promo LP at all!

FYI: I use Goldmine Grading Standards (P for Poor, F for Fair, G for Good, G+ for Good Plus, VG for Very Good, VG+ for Very Good Plus, NM for Near Mint, M for Mint) to VISUALLY GRADE this LP, so please know the descriptions of these grades before bidding.
