Description
Original UK CBS rough orange label mono press LP.
The second album by the Byrds issued in March 1966 in the UK and recorded during June to November 1965 at Columbia Studios in Hollywood. The album contained a mix of covers and self penned tracks mostly written by Gene Clark, but also some from Roger McGuinn & David Crosby. Tensions within the band grew during the six month recording process, as well as between their producer Terry Melcher & manager Jim Dickson. The title track Turn! Turn! Turn! reportedly took 78 takes over five days to complete and in the aftermath Melcher was fired and Gene Clark effectively quit the band in Feburary 1966.
This is the original issue with the Dawson Rossiter Ltd mono sleeve and the rough orange CBS label with the 33 label text and the early A-2/B-1 matrices and B-16 B-16 stampers.
The front laminated flipback sleeve is intact & in EX condition, with some very light laminate rubbing and a couple of small creases on the front cover and a little storage rubbing & foxing on the unlaminated rear. The spine is intact and fully readable, the plain company inner is intact & in EX condition.
The record is in visually EX+ condition, with a couple of faint sleeve removal hairlines and one or two light needle scuffs visible on each side. The labels are in EX+ condition, clean & bright, with evidence of one or two very faint spindle markings on each side.
The sound reproduction is EX+, still clear & precise throughout with no loud pops, hiss or crackle & definately no skips, sticks or jumps, but there is some low & brief background noise during the run in grooves. Overall, just a really great, loud & lively listen.
The matrix nos. are; 62652, A-2 stamper B-16, B-1 stamper B-16. This is one of the early copies of the first pressing of the original UK mono issue of this 1966 album.
