Description
Up for sale, this excellent Reggae album by acclaimed artists, the Congos. This was the follow up album for what is widely regarded as the best Reggae album ever made (Heart of the Congos, produced by Lee Scratch Perry).
Following their success with Heart of the Congos, The Congos released Congo Ashanti in 1979 before then splitting up. Although Heart of the Congos is considered to be their iconic release, Congo Ashanti felt more consistent and better produced. It’s laid back, the bass is heavy and Cedric Mython’s voice is out of this World.
Features some very distinguished Reggae artists including Ernest Ranglin, Tommy McCook and Sly Dunbar
This is the 1979 French pressing. Ref: CBS83796
The Vinyl is graded VG (I use the Record Collector grading system – see end of listing for details). There are some superficial marks and hairlines which don’t affect play. Being picky, there is a small 1mm pressing defect / pit in the vinyl on track 2 side 2. I have just played the track on my system and it plays fine, no jumps just a very slight click if you listen very carefully. The rest of the album plays through very well.
The cover is also graded VG. It shows signs of age and has ring wear towards the top on both front and back. Some wear to edges and a little creasing. The original inner shows some slight creasing and a 5mm tear to the top edge. Overall it is in good used condition for its age (now over 40 years old).
I have played the whole album through and it plays well and sounds great. Only selling because I have two copies.
For peace of mind, I try to grade conservatively. Happy to refund if you feel the description is inaccurate.
Records are usually dispatched the next working day from receipt of payment. They will be posted in a cardboard record mailer. Where possible I try to use recycled mailers.

Record Collector Grading System
Mint: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition.
Excellent: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening of sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.
Very Good: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
Good: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration etc.
Fair: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise: it may even jump. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
Poor: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise etc.. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
Bad: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection filler.
