Description
Tales from the Cramps vol. 1 "Up from the Garage" is one of the first and most legendary Cramps boots. This one is from waaaaay back at the start of the 80s. I'm not sure which was the first press, the full sleeve or the photocopy, but both are from around the same period. As you can see from the pic, this one is the pressing that comes with a plain white card sleeve and a photocopied green card insert and is very rare. The track listing is What's Behind the Mask?, Love Me, Teenage Werewolf, Sunglasses After Dark, TV Set (early demos produced by Richard Robinson June 1977 and featuring Miriam Linna on drums), Don't Eat Stuff Off the Sidewalk (live at CBGBs 1977 with Miriam), Strychnine, I'm Cramped (produced by LX Chilton at Ardent Studios October 1977 with Nick Knox on drums), Twist and Shout, Teenage Werewolf, Rockin' Bones, Mad Daddy (demos produced by Chris Spedding February 1979). A real nice comp of early material and a fascinating insight into the evolution of a lot of the songs that would end up receiving official release on their first two albums.
Condition of the sleeve and insert is near mint with slight corner dings to both (see photo), but no bends, creases, rips, coffee stains(!) etc.
The vinyl is mostly in very good/excellent condition (light crackle at times) apart from 3 "pits" on the last two tracks on side 1 (see photo). On my Pro-Ject turntable, these do not cause the record to skip, but there is a loud, audible "POP" when they play. Can't guarantee what will happen with a different deck, but I believe in being up front and not letting folks get a surprise when the record shows up! This is also reflected in the low starting price of the auction.
