Description

While many fans, critics, and DJs always added "The" in front of the name, Karen and Richard were clear that they wanted the name of the group to be "Carpenters", with no definite article preceding the name. To some this is a small point, but it is emblematic of the approach Carpenters took to just about everything they did in the studio, on tour, even down to the packaging. This box set, "Carpenters Anthology", reflects the meticulous nature of Karen and Richard. And the same goes for A&M Records, the American label that signed the duo, and to Alfa Records in Japan, the company which manufactured and released this set. Their selection number, as printed the spine and on the Japanese paper vertical strip, is AMP-98001.
Manufactured in Japan in 1985, this is a new, never played, Vinyl LP Set in the original box. It was not shrink-wrapped, but consistent with many Japanese releases it was packaged in a heavy-plastic sleeve. The list price in 1985 was ¥9800, or about $40.00 (in 1985). While inflation pegs that ¥9800 to approximately $90 today, the reality is that a box set like this, in new condition, never been played, is worth much more. Inside the box you'll find the beautiful booklet which contains liner notes and lyrics, in English and Japanese. And of course there are the four discs. Each vinyl disc was carefully placed in a poly-sleeve for safe keeping, and then inserted into an individually packaged jacket with a unique picture sleeve. Disc one features a photo of Karen and Richard, disc two has a photo of Karen, disc three a photo of Richard, and disc four another photo of Karen and Richard together.
