Description
Thank you for looking at this auction. You are bidding on one of the most historic rock 'n roll albums of all time, The "Chirping" Crickets. It is the first and only album, from the legendary Buddy Holly and his band, released during his lifetime. This album created the legend. It includes: "That'll be the Day," "Oh, Boy!," and "Maybe, Baby," just to name a few. Rolling Stone magazine ranked it #421 on it's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.
My father bought this exact album when it was first released and has kept it the whole time. I'm not an expert on how to rate this item, so I will be conservative. I would put the album jacket at a 7.5+. The front still has the original price tag from the store in which he bought the record (pic. 4), the edges show below average wear. There is a slight blemish on the top corner trim of the jacket (pic. 11) I'd say it is about 7/16" long. It does not effect the view of the front of the jacket, and it is barely noticable from the back. You will also notice in pics #2 and 9 there is a small piece of tape. My father used this to keep the album inside during transport. I did not take it off for fear of hurting the integrity of the front and back cover. The jacket, for being 50+ years old, looks fantastic.
The inside sleeve is the original and looks great. It has browning, but no creases, and protects the record very well. There is slight wear at the touch points of the album. I'd rate it a 6.5. Again, I'm trying to be conservative. The vinyl itself still has luster and shine. There is a small mark at the very beginning of the first song on Side 2 (Sorry, my camera wouldn't pick it up.). It does not effect the play or sound. In fact, listening to this album, reminds you how much vinyl sounds better compared to CDs. I'd rate the vinyl itself a conservative 7.5.
This is a great addition to any collector's library. Good Luck and thank you for your bids.
