All gradings are visual and very strict.
We use: N > M > EX+ > EX > EX- > VG+ > VG
Record grading:
N (New) Record is still sealed and has never been played.
M (Mint) Like new. The record does not have any visible light scratches or cracks.
EX+ (Excellent Plus) The record has hardly visible small scratches etc. EX+ means almost faultless. I think you can find records graded EX+ quite satisfactory.
EX (Excellent) There are some light scratches and cracks on the record (which can be felt by touch). Sometimes these slight defects may influence sound. *Although some noise is audible in quieter sections of the record, such as fade-outs, and it is especially conspicuous between tracks, it does not have a profound influence on the whole record. The label may have discolorations or ring wear.
EX- (Excellent Minus) It is worse than the above, but there are no needle jumps. There is some noise. The label may have discolorations or ring wear.
VG+ (Very Good Plus) It is worse than the above. But,No Needle jumping. There is some noise. The label has discolorations or ring wear.
VG (Very Good ) It is worse than the above.
Cover grading:
N (New) Record is still sealed and has never been played.
M-(Mint minus) Like new.The Cover does not have any lines, folds, scratches, cracks, spots, or other similar folds.
EX+ (Excellent Plus) The Cover has small lines/folds/scratches/cracks/spots/ring wear, or other similar faults.
EX (Excellent) The Cover may have light lines, folds, scratches, cracks, spots, some writing, some tape or sticker (or traces of such) and ring wear. It may be slightly dirty.
EX- (Excellent minus) It is worse than the above, The Cover may have light lines, folds, scratches, cracks, spots, some writing, some tape or sticker (or traces of such) and ring wear. The Cover may be dirty.
VG+ (Very Good Plus) It is worse than the above,The Cover has striking folds, scratches, cracks, spots, ring wear, some writing, scotch tape, or stickers.
