Must-Have collector's item for Clash aficionados.
This is the incredibly rare and sought after bootleg album, officially untitled, but known as "Red China" because of the sleeve design.
These pressings, believed to be American in origin first began to surface in the early 1980s. They came with a few known label variations, and this is one of the plain white versions.
The album includes the five demo tracks recorded in November & December 1976 at Polydor studios; Guy Stevens producing, Terry Chimes on drums and before the band signed for Maurice Oberstein's CBS.
It also features the tracks that appeared on the NME Capital Radio freebie and three other CBS tracks recorded in the winter of 77/78.
There's still nothing on earth that compares to a live Clash set when the band are on form, but these Polydor demos show how the band might have sounded on vinyl if they'd gone with Polydor instead of CBS.

Vinyl: Ex. Super-clean copy. With only the very lightest of superficial hairline surface marks. The record still retains a remarkable lustre and sheen for being 30 plus years old. Play-tested and reproduction is fantastic. Production is a bit hit and miss, but these are bootleg recordings from early demos. This copy has the plain white labels which are clean and free from scuffs & stains. It can't have seen much turntable action, evidenced from the vinyl shards still present around the spindle hole.
Sleeve: VG+. Nice condition sleeve. Simple single-fold wraparound card, red with black Chinese-style lettering and black & white screen print representation of one of Penny Smith's multitude of Clash photos. Rear sleeve design features dot-matrix print of Red-Army soldiers. Credits on rear sleeve show, "A Fashion Mall Production" with cover graphics by T.L. Ary.
Great example of this famous bootleg, copies of which very rarely come up for sale. There are some later CD compilations that include the Polydor demos, but Red China Vinyls are very scarce.
