Description

The Class-Airs on Honey Bee Records from 1963: “Too Old To Cry”/“My Tears Start To Fall”.

The Class-Airs were a white vocal quartet from Bristol, Rhode Island led by songwriter Jerry Raymond who also recorded under the name of Cal Raye.

This doo wop/garage rock single is a rare and highly-sought after 45 RPM.

Superb examples of this disc have sold for several hundred dollars.

Full disclosure: This is not an ideal copy. This is an entry level collector’s copy. Golden Crest Pressing was known for having the labels fall off their records or tear away because of poor glueing. The “My Tears Start To Fall” label is missing the top left portion.

The “Too Old To Cry” label is in good condition with just some ring wear. Both sides have the familiar “cross out” to Don-Jo Music under the label logo.

The vinyl: This is a styrene pressing and the record has that early ‘60s styrene hiss sound on the “Cry” side which would be graded as VG- overall because of the hiss. Visually this side looks better than it plays.

The “Tears” side sounds better (less styrene hiss) but is graded as G+ because of the scratch and an associated pop.

This copy was owned by an acquaintance of Cal Raye who had a collection of all of his 45 RPM recordings. That Massachusetts collector recently passed.
