ARTIST: The Dixie Serenaders (Sonny Clay)

TITLES: River Stay 'Way From My Door / When It's Sleepy Time Down South
CONDITION: V+
DESCRIPTION: Super rare jazz disc by Sonny Clay's Hartford Ballroom Orchestra recorded in Los Angeles summer of 1931 (although Clay claims the session took place in 1929). The first time I believe a copy of the Champion has been offered on eBay, and one of those 78s you can't realistically tell yourself you'll wait for a better copy. Not counted in the 78 Quarterly rarest jazz records - this one turned up 3 years ago in a Virginia thrift store. Some scuffing, but wear has the look of rubbing rather than stripping. Plays strong with quiet surface - only some light crackle at the very beginning.
