Description

Record Label:  Elektra Records       EKS-9002  STEREO

     White Label Promo (WLP)

Date: July, 1970

Format:  LP; the PROMO Stereo version may have been a limited edition pressed on virgin vinyl in better quality than mass production pressings.  PROMO copies of early Doors LPs often sell for over $200 - $300 in mint condition.  Note:  another copy of this LP set in VG++/NM (cover/disc) sold for $280.00 recently on eBay - having read that description and checked the pictures, I am confident my offering here is worthy of the substantially lower offering price considering the cover is VG- while the discs are still NM.

Review:  The sixth (and first live sourced) Doors studio album.
Great songs on this LP - Who Do You Love, Love Hides, Build Me A Woman, Universal Mind, Break On Thru - #2, and The Celebration of the Lizard (one of the first, and best, recording attempts of Jim's epic performance piece at the Aquarius Theater in LA, the kick-off of the string of live recordings for this album). The Doors have been releasing the complete unedited shows from these various venues recently on the Bright Midnight Archives label from Rhino Records.

Grading:  cover/disc – VG-/NM - the LPs in this album have been well cared-for and preserved.  All-in-all, it is still    a really nice rare set, especially with the red on black "E"/elektra cover promo sticker & the NM WLP records!

Cover:  The gatefold cover grades VG-, as there is moderate ring wear front & back, moderate edge wear top & bottom (hardly any spine wear), and a 3/4in x 5in tape-removal residue on the front cover down Densmore's right back that removed some of the top layer of paper (w/ 3 1/4in white spots) - not as bad as it sounds; There is also writing, MEA, in black marker on front cover above Jim's head & on his neck, and faintly in pen above his head on back cover.  On the plus side, has black & red rectangular promo sticker with big stylized "E" over "elektra" and "PROMOTIONAL COPY NOT FOR SALE".

Vinyl:  Both sides of each LP are shiny with full luster and no noticeable scratches or even any defects on either side.  Under a bright light, both sides don't even have any detectable paper scuffs.

Label:  Perfectly clean white paper labels with large stylized black "E" over "elektra" with butterfly - no spindle lines near hole on either side.  Pristine!  "RADIO STATION COPY".

Record Sleeve:  Original black E/elektra logo/mirror image inner sleeves
