Classic rock at its best, The Doors debut album was released on January 4th 1967, and best known for the band’s breakthrough song “Light My Fire” while "Break On Through (To The Other Side)” kicks off with Densmore’s hard-grooving Latin beat and an electric piano vamp reminiscent of Ray Charles’ “What I’d Say.” If one song sums up the Doors’ take-no-prisoners philosophy, its “Break On Through.”

Interestingly the mono version (Elektra EKL-4007) has unique mixes that sound different from the stereo version (EKS-74007). The mono LP was deleted not long after its original release and remained unavailable until 2010, when it was reissued as a limited edition 180 gram audiophile LP by Rhino Records.

In a contemporary review for Crawdaddy! magazine, Paul Williams hailed The Doors as "an album of magnitude" while likening the band to Brian Wilson and the Rolling Stones as creators of "modern music", with which "contemporary 'jazz' and 'classical' composers must try to measure up to.”

The Doors album sounds as good today as it did back in 67.

Sleeve: Original laminated sleeve - as opposed to early US cardboard ones, light age related creasing to laminate but nothing dramatic. Some light scuffing but all edges remain true, fully readable spine (see photos) although slightly flattened. There is a split on top edge, but this is where the glue has ceased to be effective and card has separated, so should be easily repaired.

Overall not a bad cover (seen a lot worse) and, depending on your grading it lies between Good+ to VG

Vinyl: Solid heavyweight vinyl, visually both sides have multiple surface/needle marks, but nothing feel-able, (see photos) has enjoyed a good life, lies flat (no warp). 

Audio: Plays through fine with good solid mono reproduction, there is background static crackle throughout but no skips, sticks or jumps. S2 has a few marks that cause pips/pops, this is most noticeable on “The End” which is a quiet track. Again despite looks it plays through fine, graded Good/Good+ a decent filler. I have owned it for a number of years (before an upgrade) and been quiet happy - although it is what it is.

I have tried to be honest and transparent in my description - the photographs form part of the description. Questions are welcome, don't hesitate to ask. I have good feedback (and positive comments) as both a buyer and seller, so you can buy with confidence. I am a collector for 45+ years, the few records I sell are either the result of duplicates, upgrades, which this is or a bit of thinning every now and again. I strictly adhere to the Record Collector Magazine's Grading Guide using one + or - for addition guidance: 

MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. 

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.

VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable. 

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.
