The Doors – “Strange Days” Mono LP Record –Very Rare

You are bidding on the 1967 Doors album “Strange Days”.  This is the EXTREMEMLY RARE MONO VERSION of the album released on Elektra Records (label # EKL-4014).  The record has been kept in the original plastic, which currently covers about half of the album, and thus is in very nice condition considering its age and rarity.

It contains the original picture insert with a promo photo of the Doors on one side and  full lyrics on the other side.

This version has the Mono label number  -EKL-4014 (mono)-  on the front and back of the cover, and on both sides of the record, and the stereo label # (EKS-74014) on the spine. The record has a tan/gold label.

Because of the value of this record, I am going to give an extended assessment of the condition based on my observations. Let me know if you have any particular questions or concerns, and I will be happy to answer anything regarding the condition.  

All of the pictures are from the actual album being sold and are not stock photos. The jacket has been kept in the original plastic, although some of the plastic has been torn off, so it covers about 1/2 of the album, and thus the wear has been kept to a minimum. The jacket looks really good, only a very small spot of fading and slight ring wear on the far right side of the cover where the plastic had not covered. The corners on that side are just a bit worn as well.  The rest is in excellent condition, with no fading and no damage. Really nice looking album.

The original insert sleeve is included as well. It features a promo photo of the Doors in black and white, with the full lyrics on the reverse side. There is a small tear, where the record has come through the bottom slightly, maybe about 3-4 inches. There is also a mark on the photo that looks like a scratch in the upper center to right side about 7 to 8 inches, along with a slight tear on the very top of that side, ¼ to ½ inch. Other than that, the insert is in great shape, no fading on the picture and just very nice looking overall.

This record is in beautiful condition considering it’s rarity. The tan/gold label is immaculate, with no marks, no writing, and no fading. On the record itself, there are a few marks on side one. Side two has a couple marks as well, along with two marks that stand out a bit more on the right hand side of the record. The first is a scratch from song one to song three that is shaped like an x. The second is a much smaller scratch at the end of the last song. Aside from what I have mentioned, this album is in excellent shape and has been very well cared for. It is rare to find a copy of this record, and even more rare to find one in the original plastic with as little wear as is shown here.

"Strange Days" partially consists of songs that did not make it onto their debut album. This album imposes an eerie, bizarre feeling, containing some of The Doors' most psychedelic songs. It includes songs such as "Strange Days", "People Are Strange", "Love Me Two Times" and "When the Music's Over". The latter is an epic poem that is comparable to the famous "The End".

The album also includes "Moonlight Drive", which was one of the first songs written by Jim Morrison for The Doors. The song was recorded in 1965 (demo) and 1966 (intended for their first album). In 1967 a final version was recorded and released on this album.

The album was #3 in the US in 1967, and is #407 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. "People Are Strange" shot to #12 on the US chart, and "Love Me Two Times" followed it, going to a, for a second single, more than respectable #25, thus proving The Doors' staying power after the runaway success of their debut.
