Description
The First 45 RPM Record RCA Victor 47-0146 PeeWee The Piccolo 2 Disk Set WY 344. All 4 sides are 1s stampers. Yellow vinyl condition VG+ to NM-. Sleeve condition VG+. Both disks are in the original cellophane sleeves in the early -1 paper sleeve. The cellophane sleeves split and shrank quickly, the reason you never see them. RCA discontinued them in the first weeks of production.
Why is this the first 45? The Indiana State Museum has a framed pressing of PeeWee inscribed "This is the first 45 rpm record pressed at the Indianapolis plant" Signed R.O. Price, plant manager Dec 23, 1948. The Camden, NJ plant was idled by a strike at the time, making PeeWee the first.
Claims that Texarkana Baby RCA 48-0001 was the first 45 are probably wrong. RCA started most series with 0000, ie Al Goodman 52-0000, Saul Meisels 51-0000, Arthur Crudup 50-0000.
So here is a piece of vinyl history, perhaps it should be yours. Thanks.
