“The First XI†– Pink Floyd Boxed Set of 11 LPs
I acquired this in 1978 when first issued by EMI. This set is unusual in the UK and very rare in the US. It was never sold to the general public. 1,000 copies were made as promotional giveaways for UK radio and music industry insiders. My copy was a thank you gift from a record company exec for doing the disco at his wedding at the time. I have owned it ever since but rarely played any of the disks.
For those in the US who may not be familiar with the term, “The First XI’ is an English phrase referring to the best of a number of football or cricket teams at a club or school. In this case it was used to represent the output of the band to date. This release predated the launch of “The Wall†and although there were only 10 true Floyd albums at that time, “Relicsâ€, a compilation of singles and other odd tracks, was included to round out the 11 theme.
Adding to the appeal of the collection, special double sided picture disks of “The Dark Side of the Moon†and “Wish You Were Here†were included.
The whole set is in excellent, if not quite Mint, condition. Some disks may never have been played. The most played disks have at most 4 plays on them.

“Obscured by Cloudsâ€
Near Mint condition. Liner, Label. Cover has approx 1.5 inch split at top, otherwise in great condition. Vinyl side 2 near mint. Side 1 has two very light scratches. One appeared inaudible in a quick test the other was barely audible for a few seconds on track 4.

Two stickers and two posters (same as came with the original album release)
Posters near Mint. Stickers slightly crumpled.
“Wish You Were Hereâ€
Near Mint condition. Sleeve, Vinyl, Label. Printed Liner (Inner sleeve) has an almost 2 inch split at bottom, otherwise in great condition.
“Animalsâ€
Near Mint condition. Sleeve, Vinyl, Label. Printed Liner (Inner sleeve) has two ¼ inch partial splits, otherwise in great condition.
“Relicsâ€
Near Mint condition. Sleeve, Liner, Vinyl, Label
The outer box and inner tray are in excellent condition as in the photos.
Note: Although this set is in excellent condition, it is still a collection of records made from existing stampers 28 years ago. You can’t expect it to sound like a half speed mastered audiophile pressing on virgin vinyl!
