 For Auction - The Flairs on Flair 1041. Songs on this 1953 R&B ROCK 78RPM record include Baby Wants and You Were Untrue. The record has great shine with no chips or cracks and visually grades EX+. The audio is great (about an 8 out of 10). Please see pics for record label condition. To be provided with a new 78RPM sleeve.

My Grading System (Visual) 

NM (Almost perfect but not quite. Great shine. May have very, very light superficial scuffs, needle drags, stains, etc. but nothing even approaching "fingernail").

EX++ or E++ (Almost NM but not quite. Great shine. Might have more superficial scuffs, needle drags, stains, etc. than the NM grade). 

EX+ or E+ (Great shine. Will have a few superficial scuffs, needle drags, stains, etc. but nothing "fingernail").

EX or E (Great shine. Will have some superficial scuffs, needle drags, stains, etc. Some might be light “fingernail” but nothing deep).

EX- or E- (Good shine. Might have a few scuffs, scratches, stains, etc. that are “fingernail” but nothing that causes pops or skips).

VG++ (Good shine. Might have some scuffs, needle drags, stains, etc. that are "fingernail" but nothing that causes pops or skips).

VG+ (Average shine. Scuffs, needle drags, stains, etc. are more pronounced than the VG++ grade).

VG (Poor shine unless noted otherwise. Might have scuffs, some scratches, stains, etc. that you can distinctly feel with your fingernail and cause some light pops but no skips unless noted otherwise).

VG- (Poor shine unless otherwise noted. Slightly worse than the VG grade).

I visually grade 78’s more liberally (scuffs, needle drags, stains, etc.) than 45’s or 33’s because they are more “forgiving” (audio) to these imperfections.

I also take the audio into consideration when a given record is "between" visual grades. For example if the visual grade is between a VG++ and EX and the audio is EX I might give the visual grade an EX. However, if the audio was good (not EX or GREAT) I would give the visual grade a VG++. I have experienced situations where a given record was visually EX++ but the audio was about a 5 or 6 out of 10. This and similar situations prevents buyers from receiving good looking records (visual) but with inferior sound.  

My Grading System (Audio) 

I use an Audiotronics 304A for audio grading. Keep this in mind if you have a “high-dollar” system or a system that highly discriminates various imperfections. To some degree, the same record will sound different on different players.

EX (The audio is about an 8 or 9 out of 10).

GREAT (The audio is about a 7 or 8 out of 10).

GOOD (The audio is about a 6 or 7 out of 10 with some light pops possible).

Almost all 78’s have some background noise and a few ticks. Please do not buy from me if you are expecting a 78 with neither. Also, visual groove damage can be deceiving. I use the audio to determine groove damage and this is reflected in the audio grade.
