Shades Of Life
(Focus 1 UK 1972)
Very obscure privately issued double album from a UK 6 piece folk band. 3 male members and 3 females performimg a mixture of traditional songs and contemporary covers with the odd self composed number. Mixture of very delicate female vocals, occasionally double tracked and male vocals, all done with a delicate acoustic backing, enjoyable album even if it is nothing earth shattering. Housed in a nice gatefold sleeve with a laminated front and informative notes and photos inside the gatefold this is pretty rare. There can’t have been more than a couple of hundred, if that, made and it’s a hard one to find these days.
Sleeve: EX - A strong Ex throughout, clean with no writing or tears anywhere. The laminated front has a couple of very minor lamination creases and just the beginning of a circular indentation where the record sits but is otherwise in nice clean condition. The rear sleeve is blank white card but it’s clean and undamaged. Inside the gatefold is just about perfect, no damage of any type. The spine is blank but again there’s no damage of any kind and both top and bottom seams are unworn. All in all just about as good as you can expect from a 43 year old record sleeve.
All 4 labels are clean and free from any sort of wear or damage.
Records: EX. Both records are a strong EX. Both are very clean with only a few very occasional very very light hairline surface marks. The actual vinyl is a bit primitive which causes the occasional light crackle between tracks but that’s to be expected with this type of private issue. The only other surface noise I noticed was one heavy click halfway through the first track, other than that the sound is clean and clear throughout.
A nice copy of a record which is very difficult indeed to track down.
