An original STEREO UK ORIGINAL from XMAS-1963. Matrix 1/1. Whilst NOT the spring '63 1st pressing this original stereo copy would only have been available for purchase later that year. And let's remember in '63 a TRUE STEREO pressing from this early stage is incredibly difficult to track down. So, how do we know it's as early as '63..? Well, in 1963 CBS still did NOT have record pressing plant in the UK - NONE at all. In 1963 CBS outsourced the pressing to the long standing PHILIPS plant. These Philips copies are easily identified by the info in the deadwax. "1Y/1 & 2Y/1....//420 1". CBS pressed records will NOT have these credentials. CBS acquired its own plant during early '64. So, this fact puts a copy like this squarely and fairly into late '63, or early '64 [at the latest]. The vinyl comes housed in an original STEREO 1st issue cover - Note the "<-STEREO->" logo atop the front and rear. This LP would suit a buyer who adores this title and really understands just how hard it is to find an early STEREO copy. 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Vg/Vg+) In lovely condition and, given how early copy this is, is in rather impressive condition. Under close inspection expect a couple of light marks, and a couple of superficial trails per side - nothing heavy or troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly VERYGOOD+ level of playback on side 1. Side 2 has seen a bit more use and varies between VG & VG+. Don't expect it to play perfectly quiet. Side 1 plays great with only some occasional light static - nothing intrusive at all. It manages to deliver this classic in marvellous fashion. Side 2 - expect a bit of background static throughout. Mostly low in the mix - but for a couple of the tracks it is elevated e.g. 'Down The Highway / BD Blues'. These tracks play 'acceptable' - but not clean. Difficult to part with an early copy like this, but here it is. For the buyer... ENJOY!
Cover (Ex-) Truly a marvel to find such an early cover in anything close to this level of preservation. Lovely shiny and flat front which is only suffering a bit of light ageing [this is almost impossible to avoid from this period]. Hardly any laminate lift or creasing - which is pretty unusual. The rear is remarkably free from ageing. Yes, there's a bit observable on the flibacks - but that's about it really. I can't tell you how difficult that is to achieve over this sort of time frame. Edge wear is very minor and the openings relatively unworn. The spine is 100% intact. Overall the cover retains very good rigidity. Quite frankly amazing...
Inner (Vg+) Lightly aged. No splits though. Poly-bag still intact and attached.
