Multiple reasons why this record is one of the most highly sought after among jazz aficianados. 1. The gorgeous striking cover art I have no information on who created the haunting black-and-white design, but we do know that Diana in the autumn wind was a 1921 painting by Paul Klee Swiss artist famous for his expressionist/surrealist works. I included a reproduction in the picture gallery just for your information. There is not an insert or anything like that of the painting Included with the record. 2.Gap Mangione and his brother Chuck Mangione of flugelhorn fame started performing together as the Mangione Brothers Sextet/Quintet. From 1960–1961 they recorded three albums for Riverside as the Jazz Brothers. In 1968, Mangione released his first solo album, Diana in the Autumn Wind, with drummer Steve Gadd and bassist Tony Levinin their first recordings, and compositions and arrangements by Chuck Mangione There are two label variations on GRC. This one has catalog number 32584 i'm not sure which one was first but they both came out in 1968. 3. As the liner notes say, the tracks, composed and arranged by Chuck Mangione, defy categorization - representing an amalgam of seemingly disparate elements - rock, big band, jazz, solo improv, and classical music. 4.
