Description

This is a very rare US first press mono gold label pressing of The Grateful Dead's self-titled first album.
The vinyl is heavy and in good condition with a few visible scratches, however it plays through very well with no skips or jumps (one of the photos shows a mark on side 2 - it appears superficial and doesn't seem to have any effect on play).  There  are a few pops and crackles to be expected from a 52 year-old record but they don't detract from the music.
There were very few mono pressings of this record as everyone was upgrading to stereo towards the end of the 1960s.  Early records of that period tended to be trashed by misuse on poor equipment and being lent out at parties so this one is a survivor!  There are a few marks but it plays through remarkably well.  The deep mono grooves play very nicely with a warm and different tone to the usual stereo.  Conservatively VG, a decent example.
The gold 'MONAURAL'  labels are clean with no writings and average spindle marks.
The records are in their original WB inner sleeves (and additionally in an anti-static poly sleeve which I always use after cleaning).  It has the original US sleeve which is very fragile (a simple fold-over cardboard design, which was superseded soon after) but  the front and back covers are clean and still look great.  Objectively this should be G+ but decent copies of this sleeve are extremely rare as it's so fragile so I believe this goes to VG- (YMMV obvs!)
This is a rare chance to buy a mono Grateful Dead first press with the authentic and original sleeve and inner.
