What we have up for auction is a Grateful Dead super rarity. This is the radio station promo only commercial radio spot for the American Beauty album release. If you research it like I did, it appears to have only shown up for sale online a few times in history. It has a an announcer speaking and snippets of songs from the album. It is the same commercial on both sides. Comes furnished with great condition period correct Warner Brothers company sleeve.
CONDITION: I SHIT YOU NOT! THIS THING PLAYS BETTER THAT IT LOOKS AND GRADES.
Looks nasty with tons of light surface scuffs and hairline scratches. Fortunately there are no deep gouges or warp. Totally a VG- to G+ visually. Like it was kicking around un-sleeved in a box for years.
PLAY QUALITY: No skips plays surprisingly well!
I VPI cleaned this thing several times before play testing all the way through both sides at high volume on my Techniques turntable with a good stylus. The fidelity is totally solid and clear! Light surface noise before the audio starts, not too offensive. There’s some light pops and ticks here and there that can be heard here and there, they are light and under the sound not above. The volume of the light ticks is lower than the music and speech on both sides. There are no annoying loud pops that exceed the volume of the sound in the grooves. There’s no groove wear. Plays clean in that aspect. It seems like this record wasn’t played very much but ended up without a sleeve and traveled around for decades. You are buying from a lifelong 45 collector and experienced record dealer of over 20 years experience. If I thought this record sounded offensive, I wouldn’t be listing it on EBay and taking this much time describing it and would have tossed it in my bargain 45 box with all the other bummers that play crappy.
