Description
Here we have a very unique and rarely seen item.
This is an original test pressing of the first LP from the Europe '72 three LP set. LP contains a white label with the words "Columbia Record Productions- Santa Maria- TEST PRESSING." Then there are some line for additional notes which there is no writing on either side. Beneath that, there is a short paragraph with the words "This is a test pressing intended for use in determining the technical quality of the recording only. It is not intended for sale or distribution ouside of this company."
Matrix numbers are as follows:
Side A:
3 WX 2668 A; 40324-1A
Side B:
3 WX 2668 B; 40325-1A
The LP is VG/VG+ and does not look as though it was played a lot. There are a few light paper scuffs in places, but nothing too bad. Mostly superficial marks. There are no spindle marks to speak of. Overall, a very clean and rare Grateful Dead artifact. We are uncertain if there are additional test pressings for records two and three from the same LP set. We have only acquired one of these.
LP comes in a generic white cover with "Europe '72" written in orange capital letters and "Grateful Dead" also written in black capital letters and underlined below that. The cover is a little beat up, but not so bad that it is shot. We grade this cover at VG-/VG. This is believed to be the original cover this LP came in when it was fresh off of the press. The reverse side has "WXA 2668/ Grateful Dead" written, but is smudged. In the centre of the back cover "Diana, Adam and Hal" are written. There is a small tear on the top of the opening on the back cover. (see photographs)
The original insert and rough drafts of the label are included. Sides one and two labels are side by side and state "Warner Bros. Records." Interesting note. Where the skull logo is supposed to go, it reads "skull logo." The sheet is very clean, not folded, crumpled or dog-eared. A scan of this can be seen in the pictures.

Item shipped in a cardboard cover with pads for extra protection. Also comes in a brand new outer plastic sleeve and a Discwasher inner sleeve. LP will be separated from cover to prevent damage. Comes from a non-smoking and pet-free environment. All LP's are carefully inspected and graded by two people. Shipped media mail (2-9 days) through the care of the United States Postal Service.
